Football Recruiting Update: Blake Bell at Super 7 QB Camp
Due to an uneven performance at an Elite 11 QB camp at UGA, Blake Bell dropped some 60 spots in Rivals Top 100 and some of the #1 QB in the country luster disappeared from his verbal.
However, Blake is a confirmed Elite 11 participant and this week is at a QB camp in Hawaii.
Also, since that UGA performance, Blake has attended OU summer camp where his performance was described generally as dominating and worthy of the #1 QB of the country hype. In particular, Blake’s improvement from last year was significant.

ESPN has a guy covering the camp who posted this update
Here’s his review of Blake

Blake Bell
Strengths: Bell has tremendous size and build. His arm strength is borderline elite and will be in time. The velocity on his throws is impressive. His drop speed is improved from the spring — as have his over-the-top powerful delivery and weight transfer. He is a great athlete who does not get to showcase this area of his game in a workout setting.
Areas for improvement: He must relax his upper body — Bell is tense as a passer and grips the ball too hard at times, causing him to lose control. He can be robotic in overall carriage and mechanics, although this is improved from the spring. He is raw, so he needs to be more consistently accurate.
So basically, Josh Heupel is getting an elite physical talent to turn into an elite QB. This elite talent is highly coachable having already improved from this spring (from being coached by Josh for about 2 days, just imagine the improvement once Josh gets him full time). In addition, everyone raves about Bell’s leadership skills and there’s zero hint of Bomar Syndrome. And I haven’t mentioned that at 6-6, 220, with 4.6 speed that Bell’s playmaking ability is off the charts.
So, Bell might not get back to the Top 30 range on Rivals 100, but remember he was there for a reason.
No HS QB can match his overall athleticism and physical gifts for the position. He’s still learning the QB position, his upside at QB is huge. He’s being given to a QB coach who has already developed one Heisman winner, and turned a WR into a Big 12 Championship winning QB.
