Numbers don’t lie: Mack sucks

with 39 comments

With an OU win on Saturday, the folksy (some would say hayseed) excuse-generator and master-clapper Mack Brown would be a sterling 5-8 against Oklahoma (4-7 against Stoops).

Nobody loses if you just try real hard, Mack.

Nobody loses if you just try real hard, Mack.

As we know, the OU-TX game defines not only players and seasons, but coaches. Gary Gibbs wasn’t an awful coach, but OU standards in the 90s, but he couldn’t fucking beat Texas to save his life, going a putrid 1-5 against them.

The King was 9-5-2 against Texas, including being undefeated against DKKKR, but a three-game losing streak in the early 80s set off some short-sighted rumblings.

Mack’s already a legend at UT since he produced the first national championship many whorn fans have seen in their lifetimes (tell your kids to wait long enough, they may see one, too!). His losing record against OU, which will remain a losing record no matter what happens on Saturday, is also legendary since you have to go back 50 years before you find another UT coach who is so hapless at winning in the Cotton Bowl in October.

To wit:

John Mackovic, 3-2-1
David MacWilliams, 3-2
Fred Akers, 5-5-1
DKR, 12-7-1*

* Royal was 0-5-1 once he had to start letting black players use the same facilities as whites

So congratulations, Texas. Looks from here that you fired some quality coaches in MacWilliams and Mackovic (I almost got that out with a straight face) and instead hired somebody who more times than not will find a way to fuck up the biggest game of the year.

  2. It would be nice if you had your facts straight because it would render your whole article irrelevant and you could have saved time by doing something else besides writing this garbage.

Mack is 4-6 against Stoops and 5-6 overall against the sooners. A win tomorrow makes him .500 against you jokers. Please do your homework before writing. That’s the great thing about history. You can always revise it to fit your needs. Pathetic that your whole premise in this article flawed.

  3. Even more pathetic, you can’t count.

Mack’s 5-7 against OU. I didn’t just pull that out of my ass like you did.

  5. I see, you are counting a game that took place over 20 years ago as the head man of UNC when he took over a downtrodden ACC program against a Switzer lead OU team. A little misleading when talking about the rivalry don’t you think? Revisionist history is a beautiful thing. You can always spin it to fit your agenda. Congrats, you are in the wrong profession.

  7. You have revised nothing, Ponderos. But that loss has nothing to do with this rivalry. You know it and your piece is misleading. If you want to write about Stoops owning Mack be my guest. Talk about the 50 point blowouts and the GD and MB fetal position in both the 12-0 game or 14-3 game but to reference a game that took place over 20 years ago when he took over a pathetic team with no football history is ridiculous. Like I said, you must be in the wrong profession.

  10. @ftf: Why should he not count a win when it was actually part of the rivalry? Why would you count a game between OU and UNC? ponderos states that “[Mack,]more times than not[,] will find a way to fuck up the biggest game of the year,” but the second game of the 1988 season was obviously not anywhere close to one of the biggest games of the year. Therefore, if Mack wins tomorrow, he will be .500 against the Sooners as a Longhorn, which is really all that matters.

  21. Does this mean you’re going to re-post the thing that got me banned in the first place? You know where I called Stoops a liar, got called out on it, and then posted the links that proved he lied?

You’re a nutless sack of shit ponderos. If you want to talk about class you might want to take that the post that calls for your guys to “sweep the leg”. Or you know stop shitting all over Longhorn boards.

I have no doubt you’ll take this response down. You wouldn’t want to upset the sensiblities of the seven people who actually read this site.

  23. As a UT fan, I ask that you take down that crap, because it doesn’t represent UT at all. I would be sincerely surprised to find that that poster set foot on the 40 acres. Well fought game by the way, awful offense by us (granted, most of the credit for that goes to your front four), but a win is a win in this rivalry. I feel bad about Bradford, and I think that Colt voiced best all of our (sane) fans’ thoughts.

  24. VY. I’ve been in Austin for 15 years, so naturally most of my friends are UT fans/grads, etc. Most of them are pretty cool and good-natured about the rivalry, they all know I can handle my own and there’s a healthy back and forth. Others who don’t know me like to be douchebags and I don’t have a problem letting them hang themselves, especially when it’s my site and those folks have fragile personalities and over-inflated egos.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think we over here are all still too a little worked up to rationally express how we feel, but some content is coming, for sure. Quickly … best Stoops defense I’ve seen since Harris, TGRW, Strait, Lehman, etc. UT’s vastly overrated, which makes it even more frustrating that OU couldn’t capitalize and beat them. Muschamp’s pass defense is just what I thought: terrible. OU’s offensive line is just what I thought, too: terrible.

My woe-is-me, kneejerk reaction right now is hoping OU wins enough games to get into the flipping Alamo Bowl so I can go see them easily.

    October 17, 2009 at 7:51 pm

  25. Let’s see: I post the TRUTH about Bobbie Stoops and you ban me, but we’re the one with fragile egos? Give me a fucking break. You’re the worst kind of douchbag ponderos, the hypocritical douchbag.

You also can’t admit that the better team has won four out the last five years. We were better last year. We are better this year. Once again you’re supposedly dominating front four got pushed around by UT’s OL in the second half. 142 rushing yards on 20 carries? If Cody Johnson could play against you guys every game he’d win the damn Heismann trophy. Also we’ll take that “terrible” pass defense that whipped your ass thank you very much.

So aside from being a hypocritical douchbag who’s too much of a whiney pussy to give anyone their due, I’m sure you’re a great guy. For an asshole.

Look I’m done with this shit. You want to run some bullshit in hear and jerk of the five guys who read this shit, go ahead. You obviously are not interested in differing opinions or discussion. That’s fine. As you say it’s your site. All I respectfully ask is that you refrain from shitting all over the UT sites. Especially those where genuine discussion is held. You bash me for adding zero to your site, but then it seems you spend the majority of your time doing nothing but looking to stir up trouble. You can’t seem to help yourself. And God forbid an ou fan agree with a Longhorn fan, because if they do you seem to make it your personal mission to shit all over them.

Eh I give up. I don know why I even bother. I try and make you see how retarded it is to just constantly pester your rival on their sites but obviously you’re either too stupid or too arrogant to learn.

  28. The thesis of your article is that Mack is not a good coach (he “sucks”) because he has a losing record against Oklahoma. So if he wins the next two years does that mean all of a sudden he doesn’t suck? And by the way, if he were to win the next 2 years that would mean Stoops would have a losing record against Texas. Would he then “suck” too? Your analysis is way way too simplistic, probbably because it is hopelessly wrapped up in your continuing attempt to define you and your school’s self-worth in terms of comparisons to its better.

  29. His losing record against OU, which will remain a losing record no matter what happens on Saturday, is also legendary since you have to go back 50 years before you find another UT coach who is so hapless at winning in the Cotton Bowl in October.

Yet, he wants to point to a game that took place in September over 20 years ago as a 1st year head coach for a pathetic football program. Brown is now .500 against the sooners during his time at UT and has won 4 of the last 5. Who sucks, ponderos?

  30. i really think only things that happened within the personal memory of kids presently in a program make much difference.

i remember way back in the heyday of sooner magic how nobody ever felt they had a game won against the sooners as long as there was much time left on the clock. my take always was that the ou team never entered a game without expecting to win. it didn’t matter how much went wrong. the kids never got down on themselves or each other, and they always seemed to be trying to figure out what was going to work to bring them back. and when something clicked, the thing snowballed until the other team was holding on for dear life, hoping the clock would run out.

those kids felt that way because they won. especially after a couple of ‘magic’ wins, they felt no hill was too steep to climb.

now, though, i look at the kids in the present programs. obviously all our players know the feeling of victory in that game, but the question i have is how many scholarship sooner players on the team right now were on the team in 2007? genuine question. i don’t know when your transfers came in, so i’m not sure who was on the team in 2007.

also, are there any scholarship players on the team who were around in 2004? by ‘around’ i mean actual scholarship members of the team including redshirts and injured players. people who would know firsthand the feeling of winning that game twice even if they didn’t actually get on the field that day.

    genuine questions. nothing incendiary.

  33. ponderos -

You live to stir shit up. Then when it gets stirred up, you start squealing like a stuck pig.

Mack Brown with a fucking mental midget in charge of offense has rolling off wins against Stoops with regularity. This can not be disputed.

Imagine when that guy is no longer drawing a check and Will Muschamp is in charge and the Horns start to really get ‘er done on both sides of the ball.

How many losses in a row does Stoops get before he’s on the hot seat? What a hilarious thought. Erstwhile media darling Bobby Stoops worried about his job.
